Types of Sedation We Offer
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
A mild, fast-acting sedative that helps you feel relaxed. You remain awake and alert, and effects wear off quickly—great for mild anxiety or short treatments.
Oral Sedation
A prescribed pill taken before your appointment to help you feel calm and sleepy. You’ll be awake but deeply relaxed, and may not remember much of the procedure.
IV Sedation (available by request)
For severe anxiety or lengthy treatments, we offer intravenous sedation under close monitoring. You’ll be in a twilight state, calm and comfortable throughout.

Sedation Dentistry – Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. When administered by a trained professional like Dr. Jay, sedation dentistry is extremely safe. Your vital signs are closely monitored throughout the procedure, and sedation options are tailored to your age, health, and medical history.
No. Most sedation options (nitrous oxide or oral sedation) keep you relaxed but conscious. You’ll be awake, able to respond, but feel calm and may not remember much of the procedure. Only IV sedation creates a “twilight sleep” where you may drift in and out of awareness.
Nitrous oxide wears off within minutes after your procedure. Oral sedation and IV sedation may linger for several hours, so you’ll need someone to drive you home and rest for the day.
Not at all. Sedation is also ideal for routine cleanings or minor procedures if you experience anxiety, have a strong gag reflex, or difficulty sitting still for long.
Yes. Dr. Jay is experienced in safely using sedation options for children who are anxious or have special needs. We’ll review your child’s health history and recommend the safest, most effective approach.
